The best-kept secret in the wellness world is...
Something that might sound surprisingly simple and basic, but it really is the differentiator between my clients who see the results they want and those who don't.
Here's the secret: They are willing to love themselves as they are. Right now, at this moment. Not when they lose 20 lbs. To be willing now is the secret to long term success. As someone who's lost a lot of weight and then hated myself (and my body) more. Self-love is not an external milestone. It's an internal one!
If you can embrace that fully, I'm 99% sure you'll see the love that you crave. Speaking of self-love, I'd love to hear from you in a comment below: What would it mean to you to love your body in the next 3 months?
For now here are 9 ways to love yourself more:
Become aware of your thoughts and beliefs. Pay attention to your thoughts on repeat in your mind - are they positive or negative? Invite in self-inquiry and question if these beliefs are true. Would you say them to a friend? If you wouldn't say them to someone else, don't say them to yourself.
Engage in healthy and intimate relationships. Spending time with people who make you happy. Don't waste time on people who don't treat you well. Life is too short!
Give yourself a break about your mistakes and imperfections. To be imperfect is to be human. When it comes to mistakes, imperfections or failures - how can you view them differently?
Self-care is key! Are you taking care of your body, mind, and spiritual needs? People high in self-love nourish themselves daily through healthy activities. Get enough sleep, choose foods that energize your body, give yourself time and space to understand your spirituality, exercise on the regular, offer yourself and those around you gratitude, play/rest when you need it (it can be helpful to schedule this in your calendar), reflect and meditate.
Do more things that you enjoy more often. Start by making a list of things you would like to do. Prioritize yourself and do something from that list every day. Call it your Daily Bucket List!!
Become mindful. People who have more self-love tend to know what they think, feel, and want. Centre yourself into the present moment with your breath.
Take action based on need rather than want. By staying focused on what you need, you turn away from automatic behaviour patterns that get you into trouble, keep you stuck in the past, and lessen self-love.
Making room for healthy habits. Start truly caring for yourself by mirroring that in what you eat, how you exercise, and what you spend time doing. Do stuff, not to “get it done” or because you “have to,” but because you care about yourself.
